Awesome story packed with intriguing gameplay accompanied by the spooky and uncertain elements make Alan Wake a game to remember.
The half-a-decade long wait is over! Welcome to Remedy Entertainment! The studio which brought you the famous and unforgettable Max Payne almost a decade ago. Well, the studio has created another masterpiece with this one. Perhaps the dark theme and intriguing story telling combined with uncertainty seems to work out.
Welcome to the spooky town of Bright Falls! |
Let's welcome Alan Wake, a psychological action thriller set in one of the darkest fictional towns of America, Bright Falls, Washington. Our protagonist, Alan, is a very successful writer who goes on a much needed vacation to the spooky town, Bright Falls where he and his wife Alice stay in a cabin in an island. As it’s described as spooky town, the vacation obviously doesn't go well. The vacation turns into a freaking nightmare for our poor Alan whose wife goes missing and he becomes involved in a horror story with himself being the protagonist and a mysterious Dark Presence. All he has are a flashlight and a revolver with which he has to find and retrieve his wife, kill his light-fearing foes and to learn more about what happened as he narrates the events to his friend one week later.
A flashlight and a revolver against the whole town! |
The game took over 5 years to develop by Remedy amidst its financial crisis which is an unusually long time but it strictly speaking justifies its wait. There are a few hiccups in between in terms of facial animations as they look dated and some missions might be repetitive but when you get into the feel of the game and its dark theme mainly with Alan, these so called defects goes unnoticed.
Flares and flashbangs are very limited. Make 'em count! |
The game also packs two free DLCs which continue where the main game ended and reveals more about the plot and Alan himself. These DLCs are an exciting addition to the game whose missions however might feel repetitive but as said before the feel of the game makes us forget them.
All said, Alan Wake is appreciated for its awesome story and narration and in association with its gameplay and episodic format makes the game one of its kind.
Here is the review by Gamespot. Have fun watching and playing!
